🚨 EMERGENCY PROTOCOL

Power Outage / Equipment Failure

Something broke or the power went out. Don't panic. Follow this in order based on what failed.

⏱️ TIME MATTERS

Under 4 hours: minimal impact. 4-12 hours: stress possible, monitor. 12-24 hours: significant risk in flower. 24+ hours: potential crop damage.

Emergency Checklist0%
1
Full Power Outage
Everything is off
Note the time — how long has power been out?
Open tent/room for airflow — CO2 depletes and heat builds without fans
If in flower: keep it DARK — don't open tent if lights should be off. Light leak = hermies.
Battery-powered fan? Point at canopy for air circulation
Check temperature — if above 90°F, open everything up for ventilation
When power returns: resume normal light schedule as if the outage was "night"

⚠️ In flower: treat the outage as extended dark period. When power returns, start the light cycle as if it's "morning." Do NOT add extra light hours to compensate.

2
Light Failure
Light died, everything else works
Check power cord and outlet first — is it actually plugged in?
Try a different outlet — rule out the circuit
Check driver/ballast — blinking = overheated, let it cool 30 min
Temporary backup: CFL or shop light within 6" of canopy buys you 24-48hrs
Plants survive 1-2 days without light. Order replacement ASAP.
3
Fan / Ventilation Failure
No airflow = heat + humidity spike
Open tent flaps / room door immediately for passive airflow
Point a house fan at the opening as temporary replacement
Dim lights to 50-75% to reduce heat output
Monitor temp — if above 85°F, turn lights off until airflow is restored
Check humidity — no ventilation = humidity spike = mold risk in flower
4
AC / Dehumidifier Failure
Temp or humidity out of control
AC died (temp climbing): dim lights to 50%, increase exhaust fan speed, open tent
Above 90°F: lights off until AC is repaired
Dehumidifier died (RH climbing): increase exhaust fan, open tent for air exchange
Above 70% RH in flower: defoliate for airflow, inspect for mold daily until fixed
DampRid or buckets of rice as emergency dehumidifier (minimal but helps)
5
Pump / Hydro Failure
Hydro/DWC/drip system down
Air pump died (DWC): roots drown in 4-6 hours without oxygen. Critical priority.
Add H2O2 (3% at 3ml/gallon) to add temporary dissolved oxygen
Lower water level so some roots are exposed to air
Drip/ebb-flow failure: hand-water immediately, plants are not being fed
Get replacement pump ASAP — most grow stores stock them
6
Prevention Checklist
So this doesn't happen again
Smart plugs with alerts — get notified if power drops or equipment shuts off
Battery backup / UPS for air pumps (DWC is most vulnerable)
Spare fan and spare air pump on hand — they're cheap insurance
WiFi temp/humidity monitor with phone alerts (Govee, SensorPush)
Generator for extended outages if growing in flower during storm season
