🚨 EMERGENCY SOP

Bud Rot / PM Emergency Response

Found mold in your buds or powdery mildew on your leaves? Every hour counts. Follow this protocol immediately.

⚠️ DO NOT SMOKE MOLDY BUD. Inhaling mold spores (Botrytis/Aspergillus) is a serious health risk. When in doubt, throw it out.

Emergency Protocol0%
1
STOP — Contain the Spread
Do this FIRST before anything else
Turn OFF all fans temporarily — fans spread spores to other plants
Do NOT shake or jostle the affected plant — spores release on contact
Get clean scissors, a plastic bag, and isopropyl alcohol ready
Wash/sanitize your hands before and after touching affected plant
2
Remove ALL Affected Material
Cut wide — 2+ inches beyond visible mold
Cut 2+ inches BEYOND visible rot/mold — spores extend past what you can see
Place removed material directly into plastic bag — seal it immediately
Sterilize scissors with alcohol between EVERY cut — don't spread spores
Inspect EVERY bud on the plant — gently open dense colas and look inside
Inspect ALL other plants in the grow space — spores travel
For PM: remove all affected leaves in a sealed bag — every visible white spot

If more than 30% of buds are affected: Consider emergency early harvest of the remaining healthy buds rather than risking total loss.

3
Fix the Environment
Make conditions hostile to mold
Turn fans back on — you NEED airflow now (mold hates moving air)
Drop humidity to 40% or below — run dehumidifier at max, vent aggressively
Increase air circulation through canopy — add fans, defoliate to open up airflow
Lower temperature to 70–75°F if possible — warmer = faster mold growth
Widen light/dark temp differential — more than 15°F swing invites condensation, keep it tighter
4
Treat (if PM — NOT bud rot)
PM can be treated; bud rot is remove-only

💡 Bud rot = removal only. You cannot spray bud rot away. The steps below are for Powdery Mildew treatment.

H2O2 spray (3% diluted 1:4 with water) — spray remaining leaf surfaces, kills on contact
OR potassium bicarbonate spray (1 tbsp per gallon + drop of dish soap)
In flower: use only Dr. Zymes, Lost Coast Plant Therapy, or Purecrop1
Spray at lights off — prevents light burn on wet leaves
Repeat every 3 days for 2 weeks minimum — one treatment won't eliminate it
5
Monitor & Prevent Recurrence
It will try to come back
Inspect daily for at least 2 weeks — look for new outbreaks
Monitor humidity religiously — never let it exceed 50% in flower after an outbreak
Defoliate for airflow — thin canopy, remove inner fan leaves blocking air
Consider bud washing at harvest — H2O2 bath for remaining healthy buds
After harvest: deep clean grow space — bleach solution on all surfaces, wash tent
For next run: better genetics (mold-resistant strains), dehumidifier, preventive IPM schedule

Next run: start with mold-resistant genetics. Premium seeds from 80+ breeders.
