Flip Day (12/12) Checklist

Switching to flower is a big moment. Do everything on this list the day you flip and you'll avoid the most common flowering problems.

Flip Day Checklist0%
1
Light Leak Audit
The #1 cause of hermies
Enter grow space during dark period — close door, wait 5 min for eyes to adjust
Check for ANY light coming in: zippers, vent holes, power strip LEDs, timer lights
Cover ALL indicator LEDs with electrical tape (power strips, fans, controllers)
Seal light leaks around zippers, vent openings, and seams with tape or fabric

⚠️ Even a small light leak during the 12hr dark period can cause hermaphroditism (nanners/pollen sacs). This ruins your harvest. Take this step seriously.

2
Light Schedule Change
Set your timer
Set timer to 12 on / 12 off — verify it's correct, double-check
Choose your dark period wisely: lights off during hottest part of day (summer) helps with cooling
Increase light intensity if you've been running lower — flower wants 600-900+ PPFD
Note today's date — this is "Flip Day" / "Day 1 of Flower" for your calendar
3
Nutrient Swap
Switch from veg to bloom
Transition to bloom nutrients — higher P and K, lower N
Week 1 of flip: use half veg / half bloom mix as transition (optional)
Continue CalMag — don't stop just because you flipped
PK booster ready for weeks 3-5 of flower (don't add yet, just have it)

💡 Don't go zero-nitrogen in early flower. The plant still needs N during the stretch (weeks 1-3). Full bloom-only feeding starts around week 3-4.

4
Canopy & Training
Last chance before the stretch
Trellis net or SCROG in place? Install now if not already — you need it for the stretch
Tuck or weave branches through trellis to even the canopy
Last defoliation: remove large fan leaves blocking bud sites (lollipop lower 1/3)
Mark current height — plants will stretch 50-200% in the first 2-3 weeks of flower

⚠️ The "flower stretch" is real. Sativas can double or triple in height. Make sure you have headroom, or supercrop tall branches now.

5
Environment Adjustment
Flower needs different conditions
Target humidity: 45-55% in flower (lower than veg to prevent mold)
Temperature: 75-82°F lights on, 65-72°F lights off
Check VPD targets for flower stage on your VPD chart
Ensure good airflow through and above canopy — mold prevention starts now
Carbon filter verified working — smell will intensify significantly in 2-3 weeks
6
IPM & Prevention
Last preventive spray window
Preventive pest spray NOW — this is your last safe window for neem/sulfur
Inspect for pests — check undersides of leaves, stem joints, soil surface
Set up sticky traps near soil level if not already in place
Start weekly pest scouting schedule — use the Pest Scouting SOP every 7 days

⚠️ No neem oil after buds form. From this point forward, only use flower-safe IPM (Dr. Zymes, Purecrop1, Lost Coast Plant Therapy).

Great flowers start with great genetics. Premium seeds from 80+ breeders.
